DeSci@EthDenver | Building An Open Source Autonomous Research Framework

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, check-in, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Feedback form is now closed.
Join this event to hear from builders in the OpSci ecosystem working on hack-a-thon projects such as: interoperable science data commons, decentralized publishing collectives, and incentive engineering to build resilient mechanisms for basic science funding.

This session is an “unconference style” where anyone can submit a talk to help find a team, resources, or get feedback on their idea or hackathon project. A total of 7 talks may be presented within this time slot. The event will take place in the Miras Loft and will have round tables and whiteboards where teams can breakout to work on projects. Please submit your talk and materials here to capture a time slot. First come, first serve!

The Rise of Decentralized Science

The rate of new scientific discoveries today is tracing a super-exponential trend line, unlocking vast new insights, technologies, and knowledge at an accelerating pace. Super-exponential trends are notoriously difficult to sustain over time, and the current rate of progress of science is no exception.

A flood of knowledge artifacts and a talent overflow of highly trained experts have overwhelmed the capacity of research institutions to identify strategic directions and decide efficient allocation of resources for the pursuit of discovery. Never before has there been so many data, papers, and protocols, but so little accessible knowledge.

Decentralized Science (DeSci) is what we call digital communities of global citizen scientists coordinating to produce novel verifiable statements about the natural world, test these hypotheses through reproducible methods, and make their insights accessible as building blocks for other knowledge-seekers.

This session will explore the emerging landscape of the DeSci ecosystem with deep dives on technologies pushing innovation, opportunities for funding novel discovery, the automation of metascience, emerging cultural motifs and trends, and overall strategic directions in the founding of an open and accessible internet of science.
